My name is Sheep. Learn more about me meme.

You know how sometimes people on your friends list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out. (:

1. First Name: Heather. I hated my name growing up because my brother would call me Heater (but then I called him Seen in return so it's fair) and there were always one or two other girls in my class named Heather in elementary so I was always Heather M (or sometimes Mc or even McC once) until I moved to Singapore when I was the only Heather in the whole school. I don't mind it now but Japanese people can't pronounce it so I chose Hana to go by in a pinch (cuz Heather is a flower and Hana means flower in Japanese. I'm so smrt). If I was a boy, I would have been Brian.

2. Age: 24. I'll be 25 in 3 months. T_T I feel like I should have done more with my life by now.

3. Location: Kashiwa city, Chiba prefecture, Japan. Lived in Japan since August 1, 2007. (Almost) everyone new I meet on the internet (or at least Arashi fandom) is jealous but it's really not that exciting. Kashiwa is big enough that I've got decent shopping and fun things to do so I don't have to go to Tokyo. But most of my friends live there so I really do. Before that was in Vancouver, BC where I went to university. I'm leaving in April next year, moving back in with the parents who live in Brampton, Ontario. Despite it being the armpit of the GTA (and Toronto is the armpit of Canada so... you can imagine), I'm actually looking forward to it.

4. Occupation: Assistant Language Teacher. I teach English to elementary and junior high school kids. It's pretty brainless and can be exhausting but also is quite fun. I don't know how much my grade 5's and 6's are actually learning but they enjoy my classes for the most part and I try to teach them about the world at the same time.

5. Partner?: None. I haven't had anyone to call my boyfriend since just after high school (...6 years omg). A few floundering crushes here and there but nothing worth writing home about. I hate that I'm almost 25 and have never been in love. :( There has been some crazy UST with my best friend from high school, JC, but nothing has come of it because I lived across the country. And now he has a girlfriend so unless they break up before I move back, we'll just be super close.

6. Kids: I used to say I hated kids but that was a lie. I don't call myself a feminist and don't really get a lot of it but I always felt like... Hmm. How should I explain this? I didn't want to say I wanted kids because I thought I shouldn't want them if I was a "modern woman" or whatever. Some fucked up modernist theory crap about women's roles and shit. Whatever. So I told myself I didn't like kids, but even if that was the case, I'm good with them. I will make an awesome mom. Now that I work with kids and my friend just had a baby, I kind of want my own. At least one. :X

7. Brothers/Sisters: One younger brother, Sean. We used to fight lots when I was a kid (I remember making him cry on many occasions when I wouldn't give up the big TV so he could watch a video) and I gave him the scar on his forehead by pushing him into the door jamb in our house in Calgary and then again a year later, which wasn't my fault: I wanted to show him something but he would come with me, so I was dragging him along on the carpet and he turned his head and whacked his forehead right on the corner of the wall, in the exact same spot. We got better when I was in middle school, we used to hang out and go to movies together, but then in high school we just tolerated each other's existences. Now we're better, we chat on MSN sometimes and I hope we'll get to hang out when I'm at home at X'mas this year.

8. Pets: No pets. My parents had a dog when I was a baby and before I was born, but mom was too scared Buck, our German Shepard, would knock me down the stairs in his excitement. He got hip displacia anyway and had to be put down, and then my brother and I had allergies so we never had any more. I kept asking for a hamster but mom always said no.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
1. Applying to universities for education programs. Two down, one to go. I'm waiting to hear back from York whether or not I've got an interview but fuck, who knows when that's going to be.
2. Going home for X'mas. It'll be my first time back to Brampton in three years. Going to see my best friend JC but haven't told him I'm coming. :D
3. Arashi concert in 2 weeks!!

10. Parents: Mike & Brenda. Awesome parents, couldn't have asked for better. I used to think they were strict when I was younger cuz I couldn't go out clubbing like all the rest of the expat kids but in hindsight, I'm glad they didn't. I could go out whenever and as long as I called and they knew when I was coming home, it wasn't an issue. I can swear in front of them, I go out on mini-trips to the country with my mom (and grandma sometimes) to visit quilt shops and I go out for dimsum with my dad. Mom and I play Zelda together and bitch about how fucked up and annoying my cousins are and how great my brother and I are in comparison to them. :D Haven't ever seriously talked about boys or sex with my mom (probably because... I never had a serious boyfriend before and it never came up) so that's kind of weird but I think now that my friends are starting to reproduce, it'll get easier.

11. Who are some of your closest friends? I have a tendency to get close to people really quickly if we click and I know if you're going to be a close friend pretty much right away. But then after a while, people drift. It sucks and I hate it but I try and keep in touch... but if I don't get responses, I give up. I have had too many one-sided friendships to be the only one putting in effort. It took me a long time to learn that lesson.

From Brampton/high school, there's only JC. From university, Derek, Kevin, Chris, Heather, Sam. From Grounds, Kate, Lexi, Anne Marie, Alison. In Japan, Andrew, Yvonne, Ginny, Justin. On LJ, Lydia, Jenny, Alex, Aes: I think I talk to you guys every day, or almost.

I met Yoshinobu today and omg, I fell in love. He's so adorable and well-behaved. Though he did cry a lot, he was not fussy and didn't care that he got passed around from person to person the whole afternoon. I can't wait for Aya to upload her pictures since I am stupid and didn't ask anyone to take pictures of me with my own camera. >_>

And now it's bedtime.

That's why you're Hana-chan to Lydia!
WE'RE MEETING IN TWO WEEKS :D

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
ahahaa yes! I think I wrote about it somewhere that I chose myself a Japanese name, I should find it for you. It's really deep.

[identity profile] chelshock.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
your parents sound fantastic. and omg that baby! the laughing/crying and the tiny little kicky-feet and the everything else! oh man. so cute ♥

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haha I think he was just... crying. Gearing up to cry. I didn't hear any laughing yesterday, just a lot of blank stares and then crying. XD haha. But omg so adorable. I think he holds a special spot cuz he's the first "newphew" I have.

[identity profile] articulation.livejournal.com 2009-11-22 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, first off, that baby is adorable. So squirmy and adorable and d'awww.

lol I know what you mean about the kids thing. I have some friends who are so "feminist" that you can't say you want to get married around them because they'll be all "YOU ARE ENSLAVING YOURSELF". People are weird. I think you'd be an awesome mom. The kids wouldn't get away with shit, that's for sure. xD

Is Toronto really that bad? I always kind of wanted to visit Toronto... And I still remember how surprised I was when I visited you in Kashiwa and it was like .. a normal city. xD I don't know what I was expecting but it was nice~

What are you going back to university to study? I don't think I know~ :/

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm going to do education. Gonna get my teacher's license so I can teach in proper schools. Well, Toronto is okay for visiting I think. I might not hate it so much if we lived IN Toronto, but we live in a shitty suburb and that's why it sucks. But Toronto is big and dirty, and the weather is crappy, hence why it's call the Armpit.

O_o...... -going to sound creepy- YOU LIVE IN BRAMPTON!!!??
Sorry, I'm in Markham so I'm in that state of awe thing...
HOW DID YOU END UP IN JAPAN (i'm overly excited I'm sorry >.<)
And York... good luck with that... -weirdly enough, I'm at York as well-
(i'm sorry I sound creepy)

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I used to live there. And will be living there again, but wouldn't if I had a choice because it's the shittiest place I've ever lived in my life. I'm hoping I get into U of T because I don't want to go to York either, but they are the only 2 schools in Ontario I meet the qualifications for, so I don't really have a choice there either... But it's only for 1 year. >_>

I got a job in Japan and then went. Not really much to that story...

also, tell me when you have kids okay? XD we can arrange a cross-continental playdate.

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2009-11-23 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe that's Wataru, Aya's brother. The first time I met him he was a baby 10 years ago, and then last year again when he was 10. O_O Yeah... time flies! He's a cute kid.

Haha of course! But let me tell you, it's not going to be anytime soon. I'd like to get married in the later half of 20's (mom married dad when she was 26) and start having kids near 30 or just after I think. Just like mom. XD

oh wow, you're the second alt i've met via fandom. ninja_tech was the first. its my dream to be an alt. hope i can pass the interviews and all and come over to japan by 2011. i enjoy all your ohno tagged posts :p

[identity profile] maiaide.livejournal.com 2010-04-28 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Let me tell you, it's not all it's cracked up to be. I don't want to be a downer, but there are much better jobs out there than being an ALT. Except if you're doing it through the JET program because at least they compensate you well. :/

Haha.. I haven't done many Ohno posts lately, have I.
