OMGGG SHOO I HATE YOU RIGHT NOWWW. Only the Keio graduate would write words like "prodigal son" and "filial piety" in a fucking song. How do I translate that into English without it sounding like complete crap? Thanks, dude.

(*) This line was a bitch to translate...  Firstly, he uses "あなた方" which is like super polite for "you".  奥さん孝行 means  "devotion to one's wife" so I took "あなた方" 孝行 to mean "devotion to you".  But, I still don't think that's right...
(**) Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] martinique617 for pointing out to me that メンシ is a reference to the members of Arashi.  It actually a word that comes from mahjong, meaning the faces of the mahjong tile.  (Reference here. Sorry, it's in Japanese though.)
(***) 罵り合い wasn't in my dictionary so I googled it.  What I found was a picture titled 罵り合い of two bears growling at each other.  罵る  means "to slur, to speak ill of", 打ち合い is "an exchange of blows" so I figured "mudslinging" was a good approximation.  If you have a definition, I'd love to hear it!

I didn't have to transcribe them, thank god. I found the lyrics on a Japanese music site (or I could have read them off scans) but its the translation that was difficult... This one took the longest so far.

YES. Headache is one way of putting it. But it was fun too to pick out the meanings (the English lit major in me loves analogy & symbolism).

Oh well, I haven't read too much into the Japanese direct transcription, but our favorite Keio boy must have used crazy kanjis as always as well XDDDD

Ah Sho, such a smart boy. I have to say listening to the song, these weren't the lyrics I expected.. it seemed more like a jazzy fun song not a SCREW YOU song haha Thanks for taking your time to translate it!

Ok, I finally am really listening and looking at the lyrics and wow, what a good message huh? I love the last line on your translation "My life is my message" I think that is the most powerful line because... shouldn't that be true for everyone, that we live life how we would want others to? ^_^ Sho-kun just is so... ^_^

Looked for a translation for some time, so yay. Thank you~
By only reading your comments I can see it was difficult x__x;;

I wanted to ask you: may I use your translation to sub his solo performance? Of course, I'll credit you. My DVD is still on the way, but when I receive it I'd really like to make a karaoke for Sho's solo.

I come with another request ^^' I'm part of the [livejournal.com profile] zerocaster and we want to make a discussion topic about Sho's lyrics. Along with reposting the k-clip I made, may we post your translation(only) in the discussion post+link to your post or only link your post? Which do you prefer? If you have anything against it, let me know.

That's a really cool idea. Maybe I'll join the discussion. :D I think I'd prefer if you just copied my translation and a link. I don't need lots of people coming to thank me for it (nice as it is) but if they want to come check out other things, they can? Or even just credit my name and link to my translation tag. Really, anything is fine. Haha, whatever you want to do.

Thank you very very very very very much for your hard work! You are amazing to be able to translate it to this degree! *salutes you*

I am Chinese and can read traditional and simplified Chinese though kanji in Japanese doesnt always carry the same meaning.

I am curious about (*)
In Chinese,
放蕩=prodigal
and 子= son
息however means rest.
yet, 孝行 = filial piety
so, am I incorrect to think that Sho chan wants to say/deliever the messege of:
" no matter the result(or era - as derised from the former line), we'll see prodigal sons/daughters faking their way to show their filial piety"?

Oh and the social sarcasm here is <3 THANK YOU AGAIN!

oh and I'm also a translator but trust me, you are far far far better than I am. I have a team who subs News Zero and post it at a comm we set up namely [livejournal.com profile] zerocaster Do drop by someday! Thank you very much indeed!

It was really hard to figure out what was going on in each line... this is the hardest song I've ever tackled adn I really should go back and work on things.

Well, in Japanese on their own, 息is breath and 子is child but put them together to get son. So 放蕩息子is prodigal son. Actually, the dictionary definition is "profligate son" which is more like someone who is recklessly prodigal or extravagant. It's hard to jam all this meaning into one line so I had to pare down and pick what fit best. But I wouldn't say your interpretation is wrong.

Oh I see~

Dearest Heather/maiaide,

Thank you very much!

Actually, if I am being very picky, 放蕩=prodigal, without contraits in terms of a human or an adjective commonly used for those either overly spoiled or extravagant (as you pointed) or without a direction in life~

I am very happy to hear that my interpretation was not incorrect.

This song is my favourite amongst Sho kun's solos and you have done a wonderful job translating it. *takes hat off and bows* Really, thank you very much! ^___^ Thanks to you, I can fully appreciate the social sarcasm and various ironies Sho kun used~ sasuga Keio graduate~

Cheers
