I had to go to my Japanese WP and search up those Kanji becuase I didn't know them either. My problem is that I know the meaning (or can guess from Chinese) of a lot of Kanji but don't know how to pronounce them or can't remember the right pronounciation for which scenario.. GAH. I've been so immersed in Japanese now that I can't speak Chinese anymore; the last time I did with someone I kept wanting to say it in Japanese. T_T There goes 14 years of study down the drain...

This is true! I know that if/when I got to China or Taiwan it'll all come rushing back and I'll be back to where I was or better in a matter of weeks. I feel my Chinese gets better even after watching TW dramas.

Yes! Whatever command of Mandarin I have is from the little time I've spent in China and from watching [some really bad] dramas. Generally though, Mandarin dramas make me grimace, as I more often than not find them too painful to watch. To this day, the TW Hana Kimi is the only one I've finished! (It doesn't help my efforts to keep my Mandarin "skills" afloat D:)

Hm... I always think that's a tough question. English is my mother tongue. I started learning Mandarin in grade 3 and stopped after 2nd year at uni, so for about 14 years now? O_O And I had friends teaching me random Japanese when I was in school and in grade 12 I started watching animes, but I didn't really pick up anything significant until I moved to Japan last August. I like to say 2 and a half. XD

He did have a rough time. But these were babies. I think there is a distinction between kids and babies.

I think so too... it also helped me rock out in my majors seminar last year when I could wax poetic about the symbolism of names and characters to all the asian kids in my class. XD
