There must be some pecking order in the Japanese medical system that I am unaware of because I waited an hour and a half to get in to see someone just for a fucking rash.  Yes, there were a bunch of people waiting when I showed up but people were getting called in who showed up ages after I did before me.  Unless they were going to the other doctor who doesn't speak English... but still.  1.5 hours and 1600 yen later for a tiny thing of ointment.  This thing better be wonderfully brilliant and clear this up.  He said just keep it for next time (it should take a week to clear up) but I don't know if there'll be anything left!

After, went did a grocery shop.  Going to try that cod recipe again and make hamburgers tomorrow.  Also bought a new duffel bag since the one I have is huge and really shitty and is falling apart anyway.  Freebie from Hainan Airlines or something that I stole from dad.  26L Adidas duffel for 2000yen.  I debated about getting the 36L for the same price but it would probably prompt me to take more shit that I don't need on a trip.  Hopefully I made the right choice.  Plus I liked it because it's red.  I always go for black bags but they don't stand out very well in a crowd.

Its 5:30pm now, I just ate some potato salad to tied over my hunger.  Time to cook and then it's a toss up between more House or JPod.  And finishing that porn.  :D

I sent Chris Equilibrium to read.  I am so fucking scared.  Chris is a total darling and a sweetheart and I love him to pieces but the biggest queen you've ever met when it comes to literature and pop culture.  Not that what I write could be defined as literature, but... I just got the urge to tell him I have been writing.  And he asked me to show him and so I did.  I really, really take what he has to say to heart because he was always better in school than I was at papers and such.  Then again, this is fiction, and totally different from essay writing, but writing nonetheless.  He's very well read and a total bookworm (he worked at Book Warehouse on Davie Street for nearly a year) so he knows his shit.  And that makes me even more scared as to what he's going to have to say...

Having someone completely outside fandom read it and enjoy it and follow it and understand the characters I've created -- they are created, I believe.  Based closely on real people, yes, but even that is hard to say because I don't know them personally.  So they are based on the personas of real people (which are probably copyrighted by the old fart).  Having someone outside and who knows nothing about the real people and who can still enjoy and feel for the characters... I think that's a success.  And I'm also worried about what he'll say about the sex. >_<  Because he would know.  He has all seven written chapters -- 20,000 words -- to read.  He said he'd start tomorrow so he can give it his full attention but he's shit at writing emails so I don't know when I'll get any feedback from him.  I just hope it's good!

Because I need to get up to date with my blogging for the folks back home.

タラと野菜のあんかけ (Cod and Vegetable Ankake) (Serves 2)
* Ankake is the name for a thick starchy sauce made with katakuriko (potato starch) or kuzu (arrowroot) flour

2 cod filets (if you are in Japan, you can buy pre-salted filets [塩たら 甘口] and skip the salting step)
1 red pepper, sliced into strips
1 green pepper, sliced into strips (or 2 if using the small Japanese ones)
1/2 onion, sliced
1/2 tsp dashi powder (the original recipe calls for "Chinese soup" stock but I didn't have any, but dashi works fine)
200 ml water
1 tsp soy sauce
2 tbsp vinegar
2 tbsp sugar
Salt
Potato starch
Oil
2 tsp potato starch
1 tbsp water

1. Sprinkle the fish with salt and rub into the fish and set aside to draw out the moisture. (If you're using pre-salted ones, skip this step.)
2. Cut the cod filets into bite sized pieces. Coat them in potato starch until well covered.
3. Heat oil in a frying pan and deep-fry the fish over medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove fish from oil and drain on a wire rack. Set aside.
4. In another frying pan, add water and dashi powder and bring to a simmer over high heat. Add the soy sauce, sugar, vinegar and a dash of salt. Mix well. Add vegetables and cook until tender crisp.
5. Add potato starch dissolved in water to the mixture to thicken the sauce. Add fish to the vegetables and toss well to coat. Serve with cooked rice, if desired.

Now to get off fucking Livejournal because my computer is being a fucking bitch.
