The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicize those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Strike out the books you have no intention of ever reading, or were forced to read at school and hated.
5) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who ve read 6 and force books upon them.

Woah, I've read 1/5th of them. If you count the ones I only started. Haha.. As you can see, I hate Victorian literature. Fucking Jane Eyre at my soul in grade 11. I have to teach grade 6ers today. I really hope my plan goes well. I don't think I'm overloading them with information but grade 6 handled the last part easily enough and they (should) know half of it already.

Well, I haven't read Austen per se but I hated Bronte with a firey passion and I had to read Age of Innocence in grade 9 or something and couldn't finished it. I couldn't even finish the movie.

I've never read Jane Eyre. And I can't remember if I tried to read Age of Innocense or not - I know I own (owned?) the book...

Cutting in here - Age of Innocence is terrible. All of Edith Wharton's books are so ungodly, unnecessarily melancholy and grim.

In my opinion, Austen is nothing like that. Well, P&P certainly isn't.
